The Writers Who Run 10k & 5k Race For Literacy takes place in the famous Appalachian Mountains. It is mostly flat, with a few hills.
The course is well-marked with inspirational quotes about every quarter mile or so to keep you on the right track. This is a fast and friendly course, making this race a great choice for those new to running or racing, and also perfect for walkers.
Start and finish lines are both at the Dillard House Restaurant.

10k Course Description
The 10k race course is a loop that begins in the parking lot of The Dillard House Restaurant at 768 Franklin Street in Dillard, GA. Runners will turn right onto Franklin Street, continue onto US-23/Hwy 441 for a about a quarter mile, then turn right onto Greenwood Road (which turns into Greenwood Avenue at the bridge over Mud Creek) for about a mile. At the end of the dirt road, turn left onto Kelly's Creek Road for about .6 miles, turn right onto Hwy 246/Larry McClure Hwy for about a tenth of a mile and make a U-turn at the entrance of River Vista Mountain Village. Once turned around, make your way back to Kelly's Creek Rd, by turning left onto it. At this point, you will make a wide loop along Kelly's Creek Rd for about 2.8 miles where it will reconnect with Franklin St. Turn right and make your way back to the restaurant after about .75 miles.
5k Course Description
The 5k race course is an out and back course that also begins at The Dillard House Restaurant. Runners will take the same course up until the 5k turnaround point. While on Greenwood Drive, you will cross a bridge over Mud Creek at which point the road changes names to Greenwood Avenue, which is a dirt road. When you see the sign indicating for 5k runners to turn around, follow the way back that you came and the finish line is where the starting line is.

In 2016 and 2017, this was a 10k trail race.
The 2018 course was moved to the base of the Fontana Dam to accommodate the inclusion a 5k race option and to lessen the risk of wildlife encounters.
The 2019 course has been moved across state lines from NC... to Dillard, GA!
